Andrew,

If you mean the plug at the 6 o'clock position in the base of the M6 light
baffle in front of the shutter, this has always been in the M cameras since
the M3.  Did Leica anticipate a TTL flash camera since the M3 appeared in
1954?  No, they did not.  This plug covers the hole which provides access to
the rangefinder adjustment located near the follow cam of the rangefinder
mechanism.
