For the record, there are several who have used Leica SLRs over the years.
I know several of them from personal acquaintance, and meeting them at
seminars. Leica Ms are more common, yes. I can name quite a few who use
them, in addition to SLRs of other manufacturers. The Leica M is still the
quintessential photojournalist's tool for documentary style work.  So why
wouldn't the best around use them? They do.

So what's the point?
