Jiri,
I know only 2 Czech beers: Pilsner Urquell and the (original) Budweiser.
The Pilsner gave the generic name "pils", still used today in Europe to
qualify lager (a Stella Artois or Maes or Jupiler is ordered in Belgium
by: "une pils, patron!").

Pilsner Urquell and Budweiser were the only good lagers available in
local currencies in Comecon countries till 1990 (there was also a
drinkable DDR 'export' lager at the time). It was kind of weird to order
a Budweiser payable in rubles in a bar in Novossibirsk... But nice,
served in big 500 ml dark bottles with lousy labels.

As good as those two Czech beers really are, they are confronted to a
very competitive market: some great German lagers, Belgian lagers and
even Dutch lagers. Not forgetting the two great Danish lagers....
