For what it is worth - or not worth ----

This month, Popular Photography did a test of 50 1.4 lenses.  The winner was
the Contax 50 1.4 lens.  The Leica R 50 1.4 lens came in second (at about four
times the price of most of the other lenses tested).  I cannot tell is they
tested the new 50 1.4 lens or the old one.  They did not test the M 1.4 lens.
