Subject: Re: [Leica] Flare-prone Summicron ??

Dear Mikiro,
I have found my late model 50 mm Sumicron to be the least flare-prone lens
I've used, although I have not made comparisons with the other f 2's. I
often shoot close to light sources and seldom have a problem.
Sincerely,
Joe Stephenson

Hi, LUGgers,
I recently traded my 50 mm Summicron M (11819/the previous version) for
the current chrome version (11816). The newer one gives apparent flare
(or ghosts) in the upper middle area of the frame in against-the-light
shots. This occurs even when I use its built-in hood in cloudy weather
and is very annoying. No smudges are visible on the lens elements even
with intense light. This is the most flare-prone of all the three 50 mm
Summicron's I have ever used. Is it just defective? Anybody has had
similar experience? Thanks in advance.
Bonne Année!
