Your logic appears to be correct in that the image is larger combining
the HM and the goggled ELMARIT.  I've noticed on mine that the 35mm
brightline is still visible when the 135 ELMARIT is on the .72 body but
it disappears when the ELMARIT is on the HM; much like the 28mm
brightline disappears on the HM.
