Oh, please, this is simply not true. 

This is my regular message when this particular urban legend pops up. Don't
take it personally. :-)

Some parts were based on some Minolta cameras were used to build the R
system cameras from R3 to R7. They were never built by Minolta. The body
shell for one was based on Minolta bodies. The shutter (which was designed
by Leica and Seiko) and some other parts. But prism was silver coated in
the R cameras, not aluminized like the Minolta prisms, the metering system
is totally different, and many other parts too. The Leicas are more rugged
in some ways. But not in others. They are better cameras than the Minoltas.
I've used all of them but R5s and R6s.
