Subject: [Leica] Non ROM Lens on R8
From: Robert Rose <rjr@usip.com>

Someone might be able to clear this up for me.

I had thought that I could only use ROM lenses on my R8. Recently I purchased a used 60mm Macro-Elmarit-R which did not have an ROM installed.

I thought I would be limited to A and M mode, but to my pleasant surprise not only do P and T modes also work, but the aperture is even passed to the Metz 40 MZ-3.

What gives? What does the ROM add on a single focal length lens?

Thanks for any help.

BTW, the 60mm Macro-Elmarit seems to be a very nice lens. I like the built in lens hood, although if you use a filter you will need a supplementary hood.
