Subject: [Leica] Leica Gallery Holiday Book Offering
From: LeicaPhoto@aol.com
Date: Sat, 5 Dec 1998 18:28:50 EST

We have recently returned from Leica Italy (Milan) as we are preparing the
Gianni Berengo Gardin exhibition in May. By the way, Leica Italy has very
beautiful headquarters and they were nice enough to give us a miniature Leica
train (actually runs on track) which we hope to have up with our holiday
decorations.I did the trip with a M6 and a 50mm Summilux - that's it. Since I
haven't used a 50mm for some time, I said to my wife when she asked where I
was going, while photographing cathedrals - "I think I will have to walk back
to Germany to get in the building." Oh well, this is what happens when you get
used to shorter focal length lenses! The news from Leica Gallery is that the
opening for Alex Webb's "Amazon" is on Thursday, December 10 from 5 to 8 PM.
The show runs thru January 9. For those not acquainted with Webb, he is a
member of Magnum and is generally considered to be one of the finest
photographers working in color (uses a M6). He will be at the opening
reception and, of course, everyone in the LUG is invited. For those who can't
make it, his signed newest book is "Amazon" hardback at $60. Also available
are "Under a Grudging Sun" (soft-cover) at $19.95 (really famous); "From the
Sunshine State" hardback at $40.; "Hot Light/Half Made Worlds" hardback which
is very hard to find and very famous at $85. All of the Webb books are signed.
At the same time of the Webb show, we have in our Oskar Barnack Room "Dr. Paul
Wolff: Rarely seen Classic Photographs." These are 12x16" photographs, all
from the original negatives, and all with an authentication seal on the back
from the archive/estate of Dr. Wolff. They are priced at $400. each (very,
very reasonable) and almost any Wolff image from his books can be ordered from
us. We have the following Dr. Wolff books available (only one or two of each):
"My First 10 Years with the Leica at $150. (one available).; "Sport Shots"
(the 1937 book or the 1936 Olympics - 2 available at $200.; "My Experience in
Color Photography" one available at $125. and "Germany: The American Zone" one
available/very rare at $200. Brian Bower spent several days with us and signed
his latest book and others of his that we have in stock. The newest, "The
Leica Lens Book" is (hardback) $45. and we have about 5 copies left that are
signed. Also in stock are signed copies of Bower's "Leica M Photography"
(softcover) at $24.95 and "Leica Reflex Photography (softcover) at $24.95.
There are about 15 left of each of the latter two that are signed. We have
only 8 signed copies of Rogliatti's "Leica: The First 70 Years" (hardback)
which we believe to be one of the best all-around Leica books. This is $59.95
and the signature is on a book plate which is attached to the book- by the
way, the image on the signed bookplate is of Oskar Barnack. Finally, the
hardback book, "75 Years of Leica Photography" - the wonderful collection of
the best of Leica photography images with a large preface and afterwards and a
Leica fold-out family tree (1991) / we think a great Christmas gift for anyone
who loves photography is $60. The shipping in the continental US for LUG
members is a total of $5. no matter how many books that you order - even if
you add boutique items, etc. it's still $5! We will also include a free copy
of Emil Keller's "E. Leitz Inc. New York" which is hardback and signed
(regularly $35.). and a copy of the new Leica Program/catalogue and a copy of
"Leica Magic Moments." All for the holidays! We take MC, AMEX, VISA and our
telephone is 212-777-3051 / our 24 hour fax is 212-777-6960 and we are
regulary here Tues-Friday 11 to 6 and Saturday 12 to 6. Until the opening of
Alex Webb, we will be here "on and off" getting the show open on the 10th of
December. But if you leave your number on the answering machine or send a fax
we will get back to you or handle it ASAP. We ship via UPS. Again, hope you
can get to the Webb opening on Thursday, December 10 from 5 to 8. Best
regards, Rose and Jay Deutsch / Leica Gallery
