I just checked my most recent Porters catalogue (they sell all the useful
little gadgets you only need every now and the. I don't know if they are on
line - 1800 553 2001).

They have a self timer which screws into the shutter release.  It looks to
stand up about 1" and has a sort of metal arm/flag on it (rather like a
train signal?) which you would move around and release - it might be a
little easier to use than one with a dial? Call porters and they will send a
catalogue. It is product # 10-0762 and costs $33.55. The catalogue is worth
it for the 100's of hard to find gizmo's!
