Eric, you are right - I've re-checked Fred Ward's original posting,
and the piece was indeed by a contributor.

As an journalist and editor-in-chief, I must confess I would not have
published it. I'm always happy to print controversial or unorthodox
views, but only if these take the form of reasoned arguments in which
the writer states a thesis then offers evidence to support it.

When I walk into a Leica dealers premises, I always wonder if the
staff are thinking "Here comes that boring old F*** again!"

I'm not a real collector in that my collection such as it is consists
of the cameras which I use when I want to take photos. However I'm
very grateful to the existence of zealous collectors - thanks to them
I've been able to buy like-new examples of the equipment I wanted to
own but was unable to afford when it was new.
