I think I know the gentleman (but whose name is in records at studio). 
We both covered the Republican Convention here in SD and compared notes
after.  He used Leica R and was in charge of several other staffers from
the paper who used Canon.  He edited all the film and said he could see
the differences in the negs and found the same differences I did--Leicas
don't much flare, even with all the pinpoint lightsources staring down
into the lens. His major complaint with Leica was that it had stranded
17 years worth of Nikons that he could not bear to part with, but could
no longer bear to use.
