Not really: What you do is move the film while exposing, at 
exactly the right rate to compensate (in one installation it
was at between 5 and 35 cm/s).
As to resolution: Here for film sizes 60x60 to 180x230 mm 
400 ASA used to be normal, with 800 ASA used sometimes.
