The "phone scam" warning may have something going for it (phone maintenance people don't have to call you to check the quality of your phone lines), but the "WIN A HOLIDAY" virus warning is a hoax that's so old it has hair growing out of it. You still can't trigger a virus by merely opening an email message, though that day isn't far off. (Opening an attachment is another matter, which is why it's sound practice to nuke any unsolicited attachment.) If you receive a warning like this, check the Computer Virus Myths Web site (http://www.kumite.com/myths) before passing it on, however well-intentioned you might be. Chuck Albertson Seattle, Wash.
