Easy.......

First Type (1954-55)- no frame line selector
 1. Bayonet mount ring has 4 screws
 2. " 5 screws
 3. Black frame counter indicator
 4. White frame counter indicator
 5. M3 made in Canada

Second Type (1955-56) - with frame line selector, old shutter speeds
 6. Glass pressure plate
 7. Metal pressure plate
 8. Rewind button with one red dot
 9. Rewind button with two red dots
 10. Cameras made in Canada

Third Type (1957-68) - with frame line selector and new shutter speeds
 11. Double stroke
 12. Single Stroke
 13. Triangular body lugs
 14. Black finish (I've never seen one!)
 16. Cameras made in Canada

All I can say is that the M3 can be a Collector's nightmare.
