From my experience, and what folks
in a couple of camera stores tell me:

If you have never been near a
Canon EOS or an M6, you might
be very happy with the G2 and its
lenses. They'll make much nicer
pictures than any point and shoot.
I am told that some number of
people fall in this class, and are
very happy with G2 gear.

If what you really wanted was
an M6, the G2 will drive you nuts with
its wirring burping and balking.

If what you really wanted was a
warp speed SLR system, the
G2 will drive you nuts with its
wirring burping and balking.

My gear closet has a shelf
for Canon, and a shelf for M
(which is empty 'cause they're
all here with me) and a little
corner where the G system hides.
One day I'll sell it.

(I shot my SO's racecar at Pike's Peak
Oval with the M6, 75 and rapidwinder
yesterday. Almost as easy as with
with the EOS gear. Would have been
about impossible with the G2.
Won't see film till next week though...)
