Having been a subscriber to the LUG for about a year, I have had ample time
to observe and ascertain the character of most LUG members who contribute to
the list on a regular basis.
While the overwhelming majority are helpful,  patient, and civilized, the
LUG is frequented by a minority of cantankerous, argumentative, and
condescending  individuals.
Even though I do not have a psychology background, I can say confidently
that most apparent is the monumental ego displayed by many.
Francesco was attacked vehemently by one and with suspicion and mistrust by
others. When someone took his defense, he too was attacked and soon others
took sides.
An effort was mounted to oust Francesco and Danny G. in order to vindicate
Alf’s hasty departure ostensibly because they are expendable while the other
is an invaluable contributor (the old boy syndrome no doubt); never mind the
vitriolic invectives uttered by Alf .

Now it seems that the self righteous have come to the surface. The first
stone had been cast by one not so pure.

Francesco was right when he wrote that a childish element exists among LUG
members.  I will not be so magnanimous in my assessment . In my opinion many
LUG members don’t have a life and must fill their dull existence by
indulging in petty arguments, calumny  and self righteous as well as
sanctimonious pontification.

Francesco’ selfless camaraderie did not deserve such ignominious treatment.
I hope that this episode will be a lesson well learned by those who feel
they are a notch above the rest.
