Hell I prefer that ALL Leicas were made in Germany, but I know the compact stuff is from Japan built to Lieca specs. Tony, I assume that you are looking for a *better* alternative to the Minilux, not a *cheaper* alternative. The only other equal alternatives to the Minilux appear to be the Contax T2/TVS and Nikon 28ti/35ti. NOT cheaper...just other options. T4/5 gets nice comments about the lens but complaints about the "cheap" feel. Don't wanna insult the R8 by putting that one next to it ;-) I'm leaning towards the Minilux after reading up on this on the net. I recently bought a Minilux for my wife from Jim Kuehl (great price) and like it so much I'd be interested in a Minilux zoom for myself (if one ever materializes). A I called Wall st camera and they expect delivery today or tomorrow. BTW, don't be turned off by the Minilux viewfinder. It's not as bad as it seems on the first try. That's one of the negative things I heard about it. Also that whatever settings you have aren't saved when the camera is turned off. Wall st camera quoted me a price of $645 for the non-zoom Minilux WITH databack. I'm gonna take a ride there when they get the Minilux zoom and compare the two. Tony
