The Really Right Stuff #B30 plate for Leica M looks a little large at first (should look fine on a black camera), but it's a thing of beauty in operation. I've seen the Kirk plates at KSP (nice to see someone stocking the things) and find the cosmetics perfectly acceptable, though not fanatical like the RRS product. Kirk seems to favor more universal designs whereas RRS products can be very specific, which is great, but can be a pain if, for instance, you use an F4 alternately with 4- and 8-cell battery packs, and realize that RRS has different plates for each configuration! Best to get both catalogs so you can decide for yourself which situations merit custom plates, and which are best with a more generic solution. Unfortunately, the dream product of the indecisive, the Abrahamson winder with integral QR flange and grip, does not yet exist, and if it did, would probably double the weight of the camera :-) Jeff - -----Original Message----- From: Paul and Paula Butzi <butzi@halcyon.com> >Time to stop struggling and fit QR plates to all the gear, and QR >mounts on all the tripods. > >Suggestions/comparisons to Kirk plates, etc. would also be welcome.
