Bill,

I do the same thing.  I guess it comes from working at a newspaper where I 
would edit fromthe negs and go through 20-30 rolls of film a day and never look 
at the positive image until it was printed.  I do this with both B&W and Color.  
One thing about editing this way you are looking more at the content of the 
photo than at the colors or what have you.
