In general, I would like to take the 1N body, splice on the F5 matrix metering, and have Leica wide angle lenses with USM. I just went through the whole pile of bodies again. Why? I am doing the next phase of my work using Kodachrome and getting off of negs. Now, I have little latitude for error in high dynamic light enviroments. Bracketing would help a lot and the R8 can not autobracket. Leica says December 1999 - real cute. I was so ticked off that I was ready to render the R8. Then, I remembered the glass. Nikon and Canon just dont invest in wide angle glass that is up to what we have in Leica land. Contax makes some nice glass. Try the RTS III? Cant see the bloody display in bright light! And its 'goofy'. Plus, matrix metering might help a bunch. Medium format? Well, I shoot landscapes and I dont go home when the wind is blowing strong. I shoot. And those two or three stops are needed. If cameras are not enough to drive you nuts, then there is film. And if it isnt film, its the lab. I would just appreciate it if the camera manufatorers would LISTEAN a lot more carefully to their clients. It sure would help us both. Will I stay a Leica user????? I would like to. But, if I get out in the field next week and have the winder go out on a joy ride, I am going to be cheesed off big time. I shot for a few years with the 1N and a 28-70 L zoom. It was not as steller as a Leica lens by a long shot, but it was a darn good system. It worked. Pete
