Quibble, quibble.
The 280mm lens could have been of any diameter. The fact that Leica engineers
chose to limit its effective aperture to 70 mm by using a smaller biscuit of
glass instead of a metal stop simply indicates their common sense. You or I
could hardly afford or much less carry around an f1.2 280mm telephoto.  -
