A lot of industrialists would cite the jaquard weaving looms as being the precursor of early punched card systems and they were 19th century or some such. Sorry I can't think of a link back to Leicas here, except that when I saw one of those looms in a museum here I was carrying my camera with me... Didn't take a photo though!
