There are various explanations for this: 1) It deters thieves. 2) It deters gawkers who are impressed by the Leica name. 3) It makes the camera look like a Fugi point and shoot. 4) It is cool and the in thing to do - similar to teenagers who immediately put holes in their designer jeans. 5) It is reverse snob psychology. 6) It attracts less attention from passing bulls (who love to charge red objects). 7) It protects the red logo from scratches.
