The same goes for the autofocus glass from Nikon and Canon at comparable f stop. You may consider buying the 180 Elmarit non APO and buy a 1.4 APO convertor and a 2x APO convertor. The combination would give you a light weight system around your neck and little sacrifice in f stops. 180 + 1.4x = 252 f4 and 180 + 2x = 360 f 5.6. I shoot with this combo regularly when traveling light, and leave my 280 at home. The results are very good, not as good as the 280 wide open. I too looked at the 70-180 but could not tolerate the weight around my neck, instead I keep a 100 mounted on a second R7 on my shoulder (yes more weight but not on my neck!). Al
