Subject: [Leica] Airport X Rays - UK airports

Yes, the current warnings are about new machines for checked baggage.
However, there has been talk about taking various amounts of film as
hand luggage. In most modern airports you can get a hand check of film
without it being scanned. BUT, in the UK, note that there is no right to
have this done. The regulations are that everything, including film goes
through, you don't have a choice. If you don't want it being X rayed,
then you don't get on the plane. If you argue, you may well be
questioned by the police (as happened to an aquantance of mine, who also
missed his flight - remember, there is no bill of rights in the UK).

Unfortunately, this inconvenience is deemed one of the costs of fighting
terrorism, of which the UK has seen rather a lot of in the last 30
years.

My point is, don't waste your time arguing for a hand check at Gatwick
or Heathrow unless you are feeling REALLY lucky!!
