When you say "film loading guide", do you mean the little picture of
how to load the film?  If so, I don't know if this consoles you, but
the little picture of how to load the film behind the bottom plate
on my 1959 M2 is also only painted on, and not engraved.  One 
wouldn't expect this location to see a lot of wear, so I don't think 
that engraving would be that useful...
