This thread reminds me of a similar fad in Germany a few years ago.  Owners
of top model Mercedes cars considered  it to be neat and cool to remove the
Mercedes emblems and model numbers from their cars.  It was supposed to
imply that they were too sophisticated to need the admiration and envy of
other drivers.  The crunch came when the owners of Opels and Volkswagons
thought it was a great idea and removed their ensignia also.  The Mercedes
Emblems and model numbers were replaced rather quickly.
