You are correct about top plates. However, bottom plates marked
"open/close" etc. are no longer available. Back doors with ASA reminder
wheels are no longer available. And many of the original "trim" parts have
an obviously different finish, e.g. strap lugs are now only stainless
steel, not chrome over brass. Other parts, for example, the ring around the
frame counter and the screws for front levers are dull rather than shiny
chrome. It has become impossible even for Solms to do an accurate
restoration job, although the cameras can be made to function perfectly -
an amazing service for Leica users with 40-year-old cameras. Interestingly,
I am told that M4 top covers in black paint are still available. Black
paint M2/M3 tops are not.
