on the m3 you can make note of the red dotes on the rewind knob, returning
to where you were on the roll, with a little practice you can get it pretty
accurate, assuming the 2 shots are available consecutively.

or shoot a whole roll of one background (i.e.; the moon) and carefully load
your film the same way again, then shooting other stuff.  having one image
with a great deal of black area helps successful doubles.

in black & white its easier in the darkroom w/2 enlargers, you can mask
areas, etc. and control the exposures/contrast

for slides try a slide copy set-up like the nikon bellows system
