I believe this is true.   A 1N viewfinder screen is bright because of the
relative lack of granularity.  It is more difficult to focus using this.
Another factor is the size of the pentaprism.  A very large pentaprism allows
a brighter image.  The Contax RTS III uses a particularly large pentaprism,
allowing brightness with a screen that allows good manual focusing.
