Mine was so bad mechanically it littered the gound with pieces everytime I
took it out of the bag. And I've always handled my gear pretty carefully as
I'm the guy who had to pay for it!

I have never had a "Leica lens" that fell apart like that one. It was a
real piece of junk.  So ever since then, each time I hear the Japanese are
making lens for Leica I get gun shy! 

It's a good thing the 70-180 2.8 was all Leica or I would not have bought
it. What this lens illustrates is Leica should stay away from short
cut/cost assembly and just produce the gear themselves.
