Subject: [Leica] Oil Leaks and British Machinery: OFF-TOPIC

The late, great, much lamented Henry N Manney pointed out that the first
Baron Rootes was offered ownership of the Volkswagenwerke in 1946 and,
after a visit, declined the honour. Manney credited this brief British
connexion with the oil leakeage by the Beetle ...

Of course, Henry Ford, the original dude, was offered the same deal, and
snorted that, "it will never sell".

I have owned three Beetles, a KG, a Bus, and currently drive an Audi.
Thank heavens for their blindness. But I also own one of Lord Rootes'
products, an Alpine, and it DOES leak a bit of oil, now and again ...
