Subject: [Leica] TCN400

Thanks for all of the help I got on my question about problems with snow
surface detail using TCN400. While I do not have the knowledge to deal
with density curves, shoulders and the like, it appears that the problem
may be a function of TCN400's rendering of mid-tones rather than its
response to filters (I used a mid-yellow). TCN400 negatives and prints
appear contrasty and sharp -- they render detail beautifully -- and I
suspect that has wowed me to the point where I simply did not notice subtle
gradations in the middle tones. I will have to go back and look at other
rolls I have shot in other circumstances more critically.

I still like the film a lot and will continue to use it regularly. For
street shots, low light situations and a slew of other circumstances its
pluses far outweigh its negatives. However, when I am out shooting
carefully with my spot meter, I suspect I will go back to Delta 100 or 400.
That will cetainly be true when I am out in the snow! (Not likely in
immediate future, it has been in the 60s in Philly for much of the last week.)
