One problem with the new system is the accumulation of prefixes. We're getting

 "re:[Leica] re:[LUG] re: whatever"

and it's really taking up space.

Since this has come up, I've been wanting to post on mail lists for a
while. It's not really off-topic, as the LUG is a mail management problem
due to the high volume of traffic. I'll break the post into parts for
beginner and expert, to try to save you some time.
