                       This is a spool with a slot and open bottom that
permits loading the film without removing the spool.  There is also a plastic
widget that attaches to the nipple inside the baseplate, which acts as a
guide for the spool.  It is for the pre-M4 models (actually, pre M2-R) that
don't have the flower-petal-type OEM quickload system.   On the M3 you need
to tug on the spool to set the frame-counter back to zero.
