Back in April, I bought a Contarex Super with 135/4 Black Sonnar. The body was totally defective and the lens barrel was so stiff that I had to use my muscle to focus. I called and sent it back. It was returned with their words that it was checked with no problem. In a word it was returned as it went out. I had no idea what they did. It took more than a month. I sent it again to them with more detailed description after I called and talked to the owner, Le, so many times. It came back with one problem finally fixed but the shutter was stuck. They simply are unqualified to fix it. Finally, I sent it to John Van Stelten for evaluation along with another Super. Guess what. John did not want to touch his hands on it because it was entered into by unqualified tech and almost impossible to be fixed. Le promised me that he would give me some credit for the trouble and shipping costs. He ignored me and did not give me credit. I had to go through visa card bank to get credit. It took more than 6 months to clear things with him. Le never returned my call. I had to call him so many times that I could not do my job at work. You can check with John about how bad the Super body was. Le's service was even worse. Author: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us at Internetmail Date: 11/24/97 7:16 PM Hi there. I recently purchased a Canon 50 f1.8 screw mount for my Leica IIIf and I wasn't very happy with the quality. They were very nice and allowed me to send it back. I've decided to trade it in for another R lens instead. Their prices seem a bit high, but hopefully they will come down on something. I'm just curious if anyone has had a good or bad experience. Thanks Gabe
