Subject: Fluorescent Lights

Hello, all

Digital photographers (and now fashion and art photographers) are
using these new 5.500=B0 k balanced fluorescent banks of light to make
portraits. The "good" lamps are made in Italy, and the light is very
interesting, completely different from flash (strobes), tungsten or
natural daylight.
Trouble is: *very* expensive to buy. Why? Is it sooo difficult to
make daylight balanced fluorescent tubes to justify the prices?
A dealer in California is asking U$ 1,400 for a bank with 6 tubes.
Isn't it way out of proportion?
Any answer will be welcome.
