Long letter to Jos. Schneider at Kreuznach received this reply: "Serial no. of this the lens would place its manufacture in 1946 or late 1947. Actually these lenses were made in 1945 for a special, but unspeciified purpose (Luftwafen?) and not issued to the public until postwar, amd therefore carry a later number". This could explain why my lens #1917630 was on a war-time Leica.
