It could let more light into the finder but then you would have to use significantly faster emulsion all the time. Secondly, you have to keep the mirror mighty clean. All extra stuff on it degrades the image on the film. This is a pain to deal with if you change lenses often. Less so if e.g. one zoom is used most of the time. One more aspect is that depending on lightning conditions a finder may leak light into the mirror chamber. Mirror in the up-position blocks light quite well as we all know ;-). Regards, Kari Eloranta
