I have had very good luck with using latent image bleaching as described
in  the late lamented Creative Camera & Darkroom Photography magazine
some years back. The process is somewhat complicated and I'd have to look up
the exact chemistry and timings at home, but it goes something like this:
Pre-wash in extra-dilute Photo-Flow, Potassium Ferricyanide & Potassium
Bromide bleach, HC-110 solution B, Stop, Fix, etc.

Potassium Ferricyanide sounds scary, but is not very toxic so long as it
is not mixed with acid.(In which case kills-you-dead-right-now Hydrogen
cyanide gas can be liberated.) With that caveat, it is no more dangerous
than many developing agents.

If you are interested, I 'll post the details tomorrow.. One warning: I
do tend to like my negatives processed at what some people would
consider a +1 contrast...
