The parts are from various sources mostly European (Switzerland, Germany itself including former East Germany etc). Some parts are pre-assembled in Portugal. But every camera (M and R) is subjected in Solms to the rigorous quality testing Leica is known for. Might I suggest that is it no longer the country of origin that is important but only the quality of design, material choices and quality of production and standards of quality zontrol. Erwin Puts
