I look forward to your and everyone else's comments. How else do >we learn? As Donal said, this shouldn't always be about gadgets. The people >on this list pretty much know that I will periodically blurt-out what's on >my mind. If I offend anyone, it's usually purely by accident. As you can >see from the comments by LUGers (including me,) everyone's own perception, >of course, is always the correct perception. I wouldn't expect anything >else. I still have a few unanswered questions though... > >Is Hara-Kiri a distinctive feature of western culture or an aberration? > >Does Leica glow exist or is it simply an individual perception? > >Is Bokeh a part of Japanese culture, or simply a cultural perception? > >Is Bokeh "dumb luck" when using an M rather than an R camera? > >Who is qualified to define and describe Art? > >Are the answers anywhere other than in the mind of the beholder? > >How did one's mind come to behold the answers? > >Jim Hi Jim, Mostly I'm lurking and enjoying the "battle of varying philosophies" ( or is it sophistries?) I read somewhere, that Magnum's Salgado, while covering the oil-fires in Kuweit during the Iraki war experienced real-life "Leica-Glow", when his M 6 got so hot in the fiery inferno, that the body was deformed. I seem to remember, that his Leica ended up in the Leica -Wall in Solms; they like to show such casualties in their museum; it's PR one cannot buy and helps to enhance the "Mythos Leicanensis". Of course they traded him for a new one? I like Salgado's work, reminds me a bit of Gene Smith's approach (my hero). BTW. did Dr. Mandler consciously design "Bokeh" into those Summicrons or did the Japanese discover it's virtues subsequently? Since he designed them in Leica's Midland-Plant, can us Canucks lay claim to it's invention? Alpenglow is Swiss of course, but did the Alpa-Switars have glow? Sorry, it's late and this is getting silly! greetings -otto- in Toronto otto w. rath, 504-633, northcliffe blvd. toronto on. M6E 3M3 canada (416) 783 5128
