Subject: Rare R3?

A buddy of mine received a R3 as a gift.  This is a silver chrome "Made
in Germany" model, which I gather, is something of a rarity.  I seem to
recall reading somewhere (Eastland's R series Compendium?...which I
don't have access to) that Leitz made only 100 of these silver chrome
"Made in Germany" R3's, the rest being produced in Portugal.  Can
anybody substantiate this?  If it is rare, would anybody hazard a guess
as to it's worth (in excellent...but not mint...condition)?
