Subject: Leica and Inflation

Roy was nice enough to provide the price for an M3 body in October, 1954.
Given this and the current price for an M6 body, excluding any rebate
programs, I came up with the following:

In 1983 the CPI value was arbitrarily set at 100. Today's CPI is at 159.09.
CPI in 1954 would have run approx. 26.8.

A 1954 dollar would be worth $5.95 today. This would put the 1954 M3 - then
$288.00 - today at $1,713.60. An M6, today, is priced at $2,795.00.

Leica's prices have exceeded the inflation of the US economy by about 1.45%
per year.
