M stuff is good but so are the R7s.  You'll get fanatics on either side 
of the issue.

I like the R7 because of its ability to use long lenses and to TTL meter 
for flash.  I like the Ms for compactness and simplicity although I also 
use CLEs with Leica lenses -- probably use the CLE combination for travel 
more than anything.

I had the 28-70mm and thought it was a dog.  Particularly at full 
aperture and wide angle settings it seemed soft and lacked contrast in 
comparison to prime lenses.  I had one of the original 35-7o f3.5 
made in Japan and it wasn't bad but not as good as the prime lens.  Dont 
know about the 35-70 that is supposidly made in Germany.  Made in Germany 
is in itself no guarantee of superiority.  

Get a R7 and a 50mm Summicron: you'll love it! Add a 35mm Elmarit 2.8 R 
and a 90mm F2 Summicron and you'll have a helluve a system.  Good luck.
