Qc used to be each and every worker checking his work to make sure it
was perfect. Now it's call SPC -- statistical process control. You
build the item as cheaply as possible (and continously look for ways to
make it cheaper) and then spot check finished products to see if they
are within "exceptable" limits. That's why some battery doors may be to
tight and some too loose. 90% are good and the rest are plus or minus
but within "exceptable" limits.

I think Leica is more concerned these days (and the last 10~15 years)
with the idea of their camera being "collectible" and an "investment"
then something that is the absolute best in camera systems.
