Brian,

Marc answered while I was out. I think glass is a more steady material in a
film pressure plate than metal. A friend of mine has a Rolleiflex 2.8 Planar
with glass film pressure plate. It seems like this Rollei/Planar gives more
homogeneous negatives (center/border) than the corresponding Rolleiflex with
metal film pressure plate.

Contax use a very fine ceramic pressure plate even in their "pocketable"
cameras, T2 and TVS. This is a virtually indestructible film pressure
plate, with very high stability, extreme hardness, and resistance to
distortion and scratches.

I am very astonished of the results I get with my Contax TVS, and it is so
silent...
I carry it with me every day now, and I never feel bothered any more.
