Good price, and the lens appears to be in excellent condition, but I can't try it out until the mount I've ordered arrives from Germany. I was thinking I'd go down to Ano Nuevo and take pictures of the molting male elephant seals, which one can't get very close to for obvious reasons. But I had a couple of questions. First, there is dust on the glass. It's on the inside, down this very deep barrel. This lens is a triplet, very similar to the Leica 400/.6.8 (which is however a doublet) in that the elements are located at the front end and the rest of the lens is hollow (well, there's a diaphragm, of course). Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to clean it? My usual approach to cleaning lenses is to do it as delicately as possible. I do all those things like blowing on it first and then using a camel-hair brush very lightly and only then using lens cleaner on lens paper, again very lightly. But how do I get at this glass? The front of the lens is removable, but it's still maybe ten inches long. Second, I see that there is a tripod screw in the bottom of the follow-focus grip, but it seems a bit insecure to mount the lens on a tripod through the grip. Is the grip removable? I don't see how it would be, right off hand. Thanks for any advice you can give me. I do very much like the lens, with its all-metal construction -- it feels as solid as any of my Leica lenses. Perhaps slightly less refined. -Patrick Sobalvarro
