i am amused by the problems with the m6 dating. none of the dating is
really reliable. i have a leica IIIc serial number 430xxx. according
the hove foto leica book this is a 1946-47 product. unfortunately it
also says that these models do not have the rewind knob mounted on a
stepped paltform like the earlier IIIcs.

now, i am looking at it right now, and it has the stepped platform.

so, when was my IIIc made? i prefer to take the 46-47 date and assume
they had some top plates with stepped platforms around. or i may just
have one of the fabled 'forged' leicas. there was someone in the us
putting leicas together out of various parts at one time, i am told.
but why forge a IIIc?
